.net domain availability checker
Type a name to see whether its .net is registered, straight from Verisign's registry record, the same system that runs .com. If it is taken, the same name is checked in 17 other extensions below it. A free .net costs $12.52 a year, first year and renewal alike; 46% of the .net names people checked here were already registered, against 75% for .com.
Free, no sign-in. Free names show the price and a Register button; checkout confirms the name with the registrar again before you pay. Every extension at once: domain availability checker; mixed extensions in one list: bulk domain checker.
Six .net checks, 4 November 2026
Three names we know are registered and three random strings, sent through this checker on the live site. 3 of 3 known names answered taken and 3 of 3 random strings free.

.net availability questions
Is .net a good choice when the .com is taken?
It is the closest substitute: Verisign runs both with the same rules, and .net renews at the price it starts at ($12.52 at Dynadot and Porkbun on 24 October 2026, $62.60 over five years). The catch is the .com owner, since visitors who guess the address will land there. Check what the .com is used for before you commit.
Does a .net site have to be a network or internet provider?
No. .net was meant for network providers when it was created in 1985, but that was never enforced, and anyone can register one for any site: php.net and speedtest.net, both taken on 4 November 2026, are a programming language and a speed test.
Does owning the .com give me the .net?
No. example.com and example.net are separate registrations, and whoever registers first gets each one. Brands that want to keep their name to themselves register both. If your .net is taken, the WHOIS lookup shows its registrar and the expiration checker when it is due for renewal.
How many .net names are already taken?
Fewer than in .com. 46% of the .net names people checked on domhaul since 4 August 2026 were registered (33 of 72), against 75% of .com names, so a name taken in .com is often free in .net. Paste a shortlist into the 100-name tab to see which of yours are.
