.com domain availability checker
Type a name to see whether its .com is registered, straight from Verisign's registry record, the one every registrar checks before it sells. If the .com is taken, the same name is checked in 17 other extensions underneath, so the fallback is on the same screen. Three in four .com names people checked here were already registered; a free one costs $10.88 the first year and the same to renew.
Free, no sign-in. Free names show the price and a Register button; checkout confirms the name with the registrar again before you pay. Every extension at once: domain availability checker; mixed extensions in one list: bulk domain checker.

.com availability questions
Is the .com I want taken, or just unused?
If the checker says taken, Verisign has a registration record for it, whether or not a site loads. 75% of the .com names people checked on domhaul since 4 August 2026 were already registered (3,186 of 4,260). An unused .com usually has an owner who renews it every year: the domain expiration checker shows when it runs out, and the value calculator what an owner is likely to ask.
Can I still register a one-, two- or three-letter .com?
No. Single letters and digits in .com have been reserved since December 1993, and only x.com, q.com and z.com, registered before then, exist. Every two-letter .com is registered, and domain investors count all 17,576 three-letter combinations as taken too. Short .com names now change hands only on the aftermarket.
What should I do when the .com is taken?
In order of cost: take the same name in another extension (the 17 rows under the .com answer are that check, done), change the name by adding a word (get, try, hq, app) and check the variations in the 100-name tab, or buy the .com from its owner. The last is the only one where the price is not fixed; the value calculator gives a range before you make an offer.
Will a .com cost more next year?
A little, at most. Verisign's .com contract with ICANN lets it raise the wholesale price by up to 7% a year in four of every six years, and registrars pass that on. Unlike many newer extensions there is no promotional first year: on 24 October 2026 a .com cost $10.88 at Dynadot and $11.08 at Porkbun both to register and to renew, $54.40 over five years.
