DNS Lookup
Type a domain or hostname to see the eight record types that run it: A and AAAA (the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses it points to), CNAME (an alias to another name), MX (its mail servers), NS (its nameservers), TXT (SPF, DMARC and verification strings), SOA (the zone's primary server and serial) and CAA (which certificate authorities may issue it an SSL certificate). Every answer comes live from Cloudflare's public resolver 1.1.1.1, with Google Public DNS if Cloudflare fails, and carries its TTL: how long resolvers may keep serving that answer, which is also how long a change can take to reach everyone.

What well-known domains publish
Looked up on November 4, 2026 through Cloudflare's resolver, the same one this tool asks. Click a domain to run it live.
| Domain | A | AAAA | MX | NS | TXT | CAA |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| google.com | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 17 | 1 |
| github.com | 1 | 0 | 1 | 8 | 24 | 7 |
| wikipedia.org | 1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 3 |
| cloudflare.com | 2 | 2 | 4 | 5 | 29 | 11 |
| amazon.com | 3 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 66 | 0 |
Record counts at each domain's root. amazon.com publishes 66 TXT records and no CAA, so any certificate authority may issue for it; github.com has no AAAA record, so it is reachable over IPv4 only.
DNS Lookup questions
Why does this show a different IP address than my computer gets?
Two reasons. Large sites answer by location: their nameservers hand each resolver the address of the nearest data center, and this lookup asks from a Cloudflare data center, not from your network. And your resolver may still hold an older answer until its TTL runs out. Both are normal. If the records here are right and your browser still reaches the old server, wait out the TTL shown, or flush your local DNS cache.
Can the root of a domain have a CNAME record?
No. A CNAME cannot sit beside other records (RFC 1034), and a domain's root always carries SOA and NS records, so example.com must use A and AAAA records. A CNAME only works on a subdomain: www.github.com is a CNAME to github.com, and a CNAME lookup on google.com finds none. DNS hosts that offer a root alias (Cloudflare calls it CNAME flattening, others ALIAS or ANAME) resolve the target themselves and publish the result as A records.
What does NXDOMAIN mean?
The name does not exist in DNS at all. A random .com we made up answered NXDOMAIN on 4 November 2026. For a bare domain that usually means it is not registered, or it is registered with no nameservers or on hold; the domain availability checker and the WHOIS lookup tell those apart. For a subdomain it means nobody created that name in the zone.
What is a CAA record for?
It lists the certificate authorities allowed to issue SSL certificates for the domain, and every public CA must check it before issuing (CA/Browser Forum rules since September 2017). google.com publishes one CAA record, 0 issue "pki.goog", so only Google Trust Services may issue for it; cloudflare.com publishes 11 and amazon.com none. No CAA record means any CA may issue.

The MX lookup shows which servers take a domain's email and who runs them. The Nameserver lookup shows a domain's nameservers and which company hosts its DNS. The TXT record lookup reads a domain's SPF and DMARC records. For who registered a name and when, use the WHOIS lookup, Domain age checker or Domain expiration checker. See which extensions a name is still free in with the domain availability checker, or price one in the domain value calculator.
