Type a domain to see the date it was first registered and how old it is, read live from the registry's creation date. google.com, for example, was registered on 15 September 1997, which made it 29 years and 1 month old in October 2026. The date survives renewals, transfers and changes of owner. It only resets when a name expires, is deleted and someone registers it again, so an old date means an unbroken registration, not one owner.

How old well-known domains are
Creation dates as the registries reported them on October 28, 2026. bbc.co.uk, registered in December 1994, is the oldest here; the oldest .com of all, symbolics.com, dates from 15 March 1985.

What a lookup returns, extension by extension
We looked up one registered name in each of 15 extensions on October 28, 2026, once each with no cache. All 15 answered over RDAP, in a median of 257 ms. Five of them (.io, .co, .me, .us, .de) are missing from IANA's RDAP directory, which most RDAP clients rely on, so this tool asks those registries directly. 14 of 15 returned the registrar and both dates; DENIC (.de) returned only the registration, status and nameservers. A random unregistered name read as free in 15 of 15.

ms is the full lookup from a US connection, including the follow-up to the registrar's own RDAP server where the registry points to one. .uk and .in were the slowest.
Domain Age Checker questions
Does domain age help SEO?
Not by itself. Google's John Mueller has said directly that domain age helps nothing for ranking. What old domains often have is what does count: years of links, content and branded searches. A name that dropped and was registered again gets a new creation date and usually none of that history's value.
Does transferring a domain reset its age?
No. Moving a name to another registrar or selling it to a new owner keeps the registry's creation date. Some registrars show a separate 'registered with us since' date in their dashboard, which is why the numbers can disagree. Only deletion and a fresh registration resets it.
How can I tell if a domain was used before?
The creation date only covers the current registration. For earlier lives, look the name up in the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine: snapshots from before the creation date mean someone owned it earlier and let it drop. Check what it was used for before you build on it.
Why is there no creation date for a .de domain?
DENIC, the .de registry, publishes only whether a name is registered and its nameservers. Its RDAP answer for google.de had no creation date, expiry date or registrar. A few other country registries also hold back dates, and this tool says so rather than guessing.
Is an older domain worth more?
Age on its own moves price very little. Length, real words, the extension and what comparable names sold for set most of the value, and an old name that is long or awkward is still long or awkward. The domain value calculator scores those attributes for any name you enter.
